Black transgender folks have an extremely high unemployment rate, experience housing discrimination and homelessness, abused by police and sent to prison. 41% of trans folks or gender-nonconforming have attempted suicide sometime in their lives, and it is nearly nine times the national average.
A lot people give praise when one decides to invite them on their personal journey but there are consistent hurdles to get over. These hurdles can also lead to death. It’s real.
I ask myself every day how I am going to make a life for myself when it feels like I have many things going against me. I don’t only deal with transphobia, but there is also institutional racism, misogyny, classism, and homophobia.
I want to create great work that will help and inspire others. I want to be healthy and not worry about my PTSD getting worse as I grow older. I want to have a family. I don’t want to be poor. I want to be happy because I deserve that. Everyone deserves that. Not everyone receives that.
All in all, everything that I am doing is my life’s work. It is all that I have. It keeps me going every single day. It makes me a stronger man. It makes me a good man. I belong here. I am accepting my brilliance. I am leaning into my genius. I am what the world has been waiting for… and, so are you. Never forget that.
